What is UGC NET?
UGC NET determines eligibility for Assistant Professor and JRF. Candidates qualifying NET can apply for teaching jobs, while JRF-qualified candidates receive research fellowship and better opportunities for PhD admission.
UGC NET Conducting Body
- Conducted by: National Testing Agency (NTA)
- Mode: Computer Based Test (CBT)
- Frequency: Twice a year (June & December)
UGC NET Selection / Qualification
UGC NET selection is based purely on marks obtained in Paper 1 and Paper 2. There is no interview stage. NTA prepares category-wise cut-offs and merit list.
UGC NET Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Master’s degree in relevant subject
- General/EWS: 55% minimum
- OBC/SC/ST/PwD: 50% minimum
- Final year students can apply
Age Limit
- JRF: Maximum 30 years (relaxation applicable)
- Assistant Professor: No upper age limit
