Introduction:

The UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE), commonly known as the IAS exam, is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in India. It is one of the toughest and most prestigious competitive exams in the country. The candidates willing to apply online for UPSC (CSE) EXAM must have all the information on this notification like eligibility criteria, exam pattern etc.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: Candidate must be a citizen of India.

Age Limit: The candidate must be between 21 and 32 years old as of August 1st of the examination year. Relaxation in upper age limit is provided for certain categories.

Educational Qualification

A candidate must hold a degree from any of the recognized universities or possess an equivalent qualification.

UPSC CSE  Stages of Examination

Preliminary Examination (Prelims): This is the first stage of the UPSC CSE. It consists of two objective-type papers: General Studies Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II (CSAT – Civil Services Aptitude Test). However, the CSAT paper is qualifying in nature and its marks are not counted for merit ranking.

Main Examination (Mains): Candidates who qualify the Prelims move on to the Mains. It consists of nine papers including Essay, General Studies (four papers), Optional Subject (two papers), and Indian Language and English Language papers (qualifying in nature).

Personality Test (Interview): Candidates who clear the Mains are called for a Personality Test (Interview). The purpose is to assess the candidate’s suitability for a career in the civil services by a panel of experts.

Syllabus:

The syllabus of the UPSC CSE is vast and covers a wide range of subjects including History, Geography, Indian Polity, Economy, Environment, Science & Technology, and Current Affairs.
